Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.

The following options are available at our school for Special Religious Education (SRE)

Option 1: Catholic

Option 2: Combined Christian

If you do not wish for your child to attend Special Religious Education (SRE), the following options are available at our school:

Option 1: Special Education in Ethics (SEE) This is dependent on availability of volunteers to run classes.

Options 2: Alternative meaningful activities (AMA).

If you select Special Religious Education or Special Education in Ethics, you confirm that, in doing so, you consent to the Department providing your child's name to the nominated approved provider. The Department is required to obtain your consent under section 26 of the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW) so that it does not have to comply with section 19, which would otherwise apply to prevent the Department from providing your child's name.
