Our school houses
At Ettalong Public School, our four houses—Biya (red), Djungar (blue), Katukalung (green), and Wylah (yellow)—are named after animals important to the Aboriginal culture of our region, reflecting our respect for the land and its traditional custodians.
Biya (Red) represents the snake, a powerful symbol in many Aboriginal stories. The snake signifies wisdom, transformation, and connection to the earth, encouraging students in Biya to embody resilience and insight.

Djungar (Blue) symbolizes the octopus, known for its intelligence, adaptability, and creativity. Students in Djungar are inspired to be resourceful thinkers who embrace challenges with flexibility and innovation.
Katukalung (Green) is the turtle, a symbol of longevity, patience, and protection in Aboriginal culture. The Katukalung house nurtures values of calmness, perseverance, and caring for community and environment.

Wylah (Yellow) stands for the cockatoo, celebrated for its lively spirit and strong sense of community. Students in Wylah are encouraged to be joyful, social leaders who bring energy and enthusiasm to their teams.
Together, these houses foster a strong sense of belonging, pride, and respect for First Nations heritage while promoting teamwork, cultural understanding, and school spirit across our vibrant community.
